I have one of these optical testers. Used it to check my tachometer readings. I did my measurements on the large pulley (center of engine). It shows that my boat tach is 200 rpm slower than it really is. I tested at various speeds up to 1250 rpm and the variance seems to be constant as speed increases.

Any of you have one of these,,, what's your opinion/review of the product ?

Tachs are notoriously wrong. They generally work off an impulse alternator signal, so the reading is thrown off by all the variables—the size of the belt and the pulley. It is good to know how far off yours is. Even my stock Tach fed from my stock alternator on my Yanmar is a bit wrong. My guess that any of these test instruments will be better than the tach off the alternator.
