I was convinced it was time to change my engine control wires. Both were hard to engage..... hard to shift and the accelerator was very stiff. SO... I took the pedestal apart to get at the wires... removed the engine control and inspected it. When removed I had a hard time moving the gear shift and the accelerator. I noticed that the previous owner must have tapped both of them so that oil could be added to the enclosed control levers.... one screw I could remove but could not remove the other. I tapped that one, added oil to both of them. Now they freely turn,,, reassembled the pedestal and hooked up the wires again.... Like New !! I think if you ordered the new EDSON replacement for the engine levers it looks like they come tapped for oil or have a grease fitting but the new ones are about $400. This was a cheap fix. The boat should be much easier to control now in tight spots.
I have the pedestal wire install instructions attached if anyone needs it
