I think most of us have just bought a new freshwater pump---but we rebuilt the saltwater pumps when they went. There was a discussion about the freshwater pump actually being the same as an MG pump and much cheaper in a previous thread. Having said that, I think a machinist could press a new bearing in the old one, but I went through a couple and just carried a spare, because this seemed to happen every 500--1000 hours. I always suspected that the bearing were not designed to take the loads of my oversized alternator.

I had mine rebuilt about 5 years ago. Don't recall where I had it done but found a company via the internet. I recall it cost about $60 to $80.

thanks for your timely response
gonna look into both options
the other thing i noticed was,
the coolant wont drain below the height of the pump housing and when i removed petcock mid to aft stbd side of cylinder block it didnt flow guessing it might be gummed up or similar
any others with this issue ???

Cheers again

To fully change the coolant you have to find the lowest point and open it. My guess is that the lowest point is the lower connection to the water heater. If you have never flushed the thing, I would recommend that you run some fresh water throught the system with a garden hose to get the crud out. You may have to blow the last of the liquid out of the water heater as I think it is the lowest point in your system. Then fill the water heater hoses with coolant before you reconnect them. Pay attention to coolant level when you start it up after filling as you will likely have air trapped initially and there is no real easy way to get it out.
