I think most of us have just bought a new freshwater pump---but we rebuilt the saltwater pumps when they went. There was a discussion about the freshwater pump actually being the same as an MG pump and much cheaper in a previous thread. Having said that, I think a machinist could press a new bearing in the old one, but I went through a couple and just carried a spare, because this seemed to happen every 500--1000 hours. I always suspected that the bearing were not designed to take the loads of my oversized alternator.
