I have a 500 series Racor which I rebuilt as per a 'mainsail' article. It used a RK 15211 seal service kit which I obtained from Shuster Corp in Mass [508 999 3261] [Racor dealers] $31 inc shipping. I also installed a primer bulb in my fuel line and it is now simple to fill the filter after a change. Not sure if your filter is the same but giving you the info in case, Bruce. TOO cold for boatwork at present !!!!

Thanks all. Will check on all that. I ordered a filter on line just to see what would come and if it is different than the others the PO already had on board. I'll change the filter out later this winter and let everyone know what I find there.

Racor 500 filters made before 1997 require the spacer when replacing element, one should come with the element. It goes under the element.

I apologize for raising the issue about the Racor filters. I looked at some in the store the other day and the new ones are fine. Puffcard has it right--only filters made before 1997 need the adapter. I think I had a pile of them in my boat at that time.

Thanks all and no worries. Better to check on it all than not.

Are the O-Ring's for the deck fill a 2 inch diameter o-ring? Where would be the best place to purchase these and do you have a particular part number?

I had a time getting the orings for the deck fills. I never did find out exactly which deck fill brand we have. I bought the replacement for the one everyone was saying we had, and it was not even close to the right size. I ended up using a caliper to measure. Let me see if I can find what I came up with. I do remember one strange thing was my water fills were a slightly different size than the diesel fill.

Bought these from The O Ring Store online. I can't remember which was diesel and which was water.

10 x 3.5mm X 46mm Buna-N 70 Metric O-ring (N3.50X046) $10.60
10 x 3.5mm X 48mm Buna-N 70 Metric O-ring (N3.50X048) $11.00

Interesting they are different sizes. I'll remeasure the seal today. I assumed they were all the same size as I wanted to replace my diesel o-ring. I measured to the center of the o-ring on the diesel fill yesterday, but based on the links provided, I need ID, OD, and thickness.

Very smart to replace O rings on the fuel fill cap. I think a lot of problems folks have with algae growth is due to water egress through the tank fill.
