We're furling main and headsail so there's certainly a difference.
But I can tell you that with this hull and sail plan, that upright and balanced is best. If the rail's in the water you're losing speed. First thought of reefing on a beat is probably at 25kts if our setup translates. She'll sail fine with jib only but to make the helm more comfy on a night passage, it's better for a balanced reef.
The other folks will have to fill you in on wind speeds and such. We usually keep our main in or out since anything in the middle requires going topside to set the lock.
