Does anyone know what the headroom is supposed to be in the cabin? My boat is on the market for sale. I have had a couple of complaints of not enough headroom. I measure 6' in the center of the cabin.

Don't know what the exact measurement is but I'm 6' and don't have any problem moving around the interior fore to aft.

I'm 6'3" (I may have shrunk a little) and I do fine. 6'4" might be a problem.

I've known some sailors whose head was so big it wouldn't fit in any cabin let alone a Tartan 37. Just saying....

Thanks to all who replied. Me being 5'6", it never was a problem. Don't know why it's only 6', but it is what it is. Hull#276, 1980 must have had short guys working that year. Guess i'll have to find shorter buyers. Smile

Did your boat have a new headliner installed? Maybe somebody framed the headliner support so it is lower? Ours has newer headliner, but it is screwed into the old wood battens that are glassed in so it is full height and never had a headroom complaint. (though I am not particularly tall).
Or did someone alter the sole???
I don't understand how you can have a shorter headroom boat, unless you have all giant people inspecting it.
Shocked

One other possibility -
Our boat has soft decks. We will be doing a re-core job on it soon. But prior to that, it is important to jack the decking and cabin top back to the desired height (or just a fraction above that to compensate for spring-back and gravity). So if your decks were ever repaired, maybe they never got re-set to proper height. (This will result in flatter decks, and slightly wider boat).
Also I was considering adding a beam just below decks, forward of sliding hatch to help support that span and stiffen the top, which flexes under traveler load. If someone did that to their boat, they may have sacrificed a few inches of headroom for that. (And if they did, I would be interested in how they did it and the results).

Turns out that a previous owner did replace the headliner, and he did a great job. She sure looks nice. I'm sure that is why it is short.
