I have hull 150 that was built in Hamlet, NC in 1979. I have read that the 37-1 was built until 1975 and was built with a shorter mast than the 37-2. My boat should be a 37-2 but has the shorter mast of a 37-1. Is my information on the 37-1 production run wrong or did my boat somehow end up with a short mast?

Everyone is out measuring their mast. Chuckle

Possibly a custom order for bridge clearance?

The 37-1 is a Ted Hood design often referred to as the Blackwatch 37; different boat altogether. The 37-2 is the S&S design that we all have also referred to as the 37C. The difference in mast height is determined by the keel configuration. The deep fixed keel version has a higher mast, earlier versions of the deep keel were labeled the 38 then later, all boats were labeled a 37. The centerboard version has a shorter mast. I am not exactly sure of the height differential, but I think it's near 2 feet.
Anyone know the exact difference? Either version would clear an ICW bridge.

Not quite accurate. I have a Tartan 37-2 centerboard with the tall rig. There were several made. Mine is hull #444

Interesting and good to know. I wonder how the two C/B models would compare sailing side by side? Would the taller rig need to reef a touch sooner? I'm sure it's helpful in lighter airs. What is the sail area of the tall rig?
