Okay, not quite a racing topic but I wasn't sure where to put this.

I have a 1983 T37 keel/cb with a Westerbeke 33, two blade prop (16 x 11) and easily hit 7.2kts in relatively calm water. In rough seas I seem to have no problems with 6+ kts at 3/4 throttle (unfortunately I don't the RPM's as I'm not getting any RPM readings). It seems most other boats have the W50 but I'm thinking it's overkill for this boat.

How fast does yours go?

I have a W50. I had the prop repitched to 16 x 11.5 from the stock 16 x 14. I get comparable speeds. Even with the repitching I don't run the engine over 2500 RPM. It's clear from all indications that at that RPM (and horsepower) the boat is at or trying to force its way beyond hull speed. FYI, the W50 is rated at 41HP at 3200RPM.

I have a Beta 38 with a 2:1 drive and 3 blade Maxprop (16x9) and get about the same performance. A little faster down hill. Very Happy

I still have my old Martec two blade folding (16 X11?)which I am seriously thinking of upgrading, but at 2200 rpms, I usually am at 6.5 knots measured via GPS, relatively calm conditions, maybe up to one foot chop.
