I recently was asked to post a couple of trip reports to a climbing forum that I contribute to from time to time. These are old stories from my days as a youngster, expeditioning in the Alaska Range. I traded in my climbing gear a few years back for a sailboat when my back couldn't take the heavy loads any more.
Sailing, especially off-shore, has many of the elements that I loved about mountaineering: exploring an often hostile environment using knowledge, skill, technology, and a certain amount of derring-do.
