T37 PROJECTS

Here you'll find photos of various retrofits, modifications and additions. This is a good spot to show your own work or to get ideas from the work of others! To post a photo here, send it along via e-mail in jpeg or gif format!

New this update - Ray Durkee shares his windlass installation on VELERA.

Ever notice that all the teak below sometimes makes your T37 a little too dark? Below are photos showing a couple of different ways of lightening things up. The results are pleasing, and look much like newer Tartan models.

KLformica
This shot was taken while Eric Freedman was rebuilding KIMBERLITE. Eric used new formica to replace the teak on the interior of the cabin trunk.

HPpaint
Tom Wells used a white gloss epoxy finish over the original teak aboard HIGHER PORPOISE. This method is okay if your teak is still in good shape.

Protection at the dock and in close quarters is always a problem. Here's one owner's answer.

rubrail
Jerry Cary installed new teak rub strakes below AFFINITY's toe rail, capped with solid half-round stainless.

The remaining shots are all from Eric Freedman's KIMBERLITE, showing several of the additions and changes Eric has done.

Vang
Eric installed a Garhauer rigid vang aboard KIMBERLITE. Also note the new SS grab rails and cowl guards.

wing
KIMBERLITE's new SS mast collar/wing plate was built for Eric by Garhauer.

fridge
A major refrigerator rebuild was on Eric's list. Here is KIMBERLITE's rebuilt 'fridge box before installation, showing the outer box with expanded foam sealing the seams. The outer covering protects 3 one inch layers of vacuum panels as insulation... try R96!

inner
Eric gave KIMBERLITE an inner forestay for offshore work. Shown here is the modification on the mast.

Ray Durkee installed a Sprint 900 windlass aboard his VELERA. Although this particular model is no longer in production, there are similar units available. Take a look at Ray's installation!

below
This shot shows the view in the anchor locker. Note the backing plate - Ray used 1/2" marine plywood epoxied in place. Ray recommends using a chain hook on 15' of 7/16 nylon so the chain is not left on the gypsy. Good thoughts!

Deck view
The view on deck is clean, uncluttered. This unit is all chrome -- not anodized aluminum.

remc remfwd

There are two remotes - one in the cockpit, and one kept in the "pie-pan" vent to Port. This makes operation very convenient.

revsol
The reverse solenoid is mounted out of the way in the hanging locker just aft of the Vee-berth. Be certain to use conductor heavy enough to carry the high amp draw and limit voltage drop.
